Defending the Blood Libel Accusation - 2003

Syrian Defense Minister Mustapha Tlass wrote "The Matzah of Zion" in the 1960s. This book renews the ancient anti-Semitic lie that the Jews baked Passover unleavened bread from the blood of Christian children that they killed. The book tells the story of the 1840 Damascus blood libel as if it was true. The 1840 incident, like many similar incidents in Europe, led to persecution of Jews. In a 2003 interview, Tlass defends his book, which is a best-seller in Syria.
